The Deacon Intensive for CANDIDATES will be offered from February 11th-15th, 2019. Program is on attachment at top of this page.
Ordained Deacons are invited to the first 2 days of the Deacon Intensive as part of their Continuing Education, Feb 11-12th.  $25 for the 2 days, payment on the Monday.
(There is an option for ordained Deacons – in placement or retired – to join the candidates for the full 5 days if they wish, as a refresher/catalyst for their ministry). Daily themes including: Deacon as Community Engagement; Deacon as Servant of the Poor; Deacon as Church Planter/the liturgical role of the Deacon; Deacon as social change and advocacy; Deacon as Chaplain and exploration of a contemporary diaconal spirituality).
Rhonda White and Karen Mitchell-Lambert are co-ordinating the Intensive which will include field visits to Wayside Chapel Bondi and Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross, visit to Bidwell and Lalor Park.
Deacons will need to arrange their own travel to Sydney and accommodation. Room may be booked onsite at UTC or arrange shared accommodation close by or homestays. The cost for participation in the Deacon Intensive will mainly be to cover catering and local transport for field visits. We will update this information as soon as we receive the information, but costs will be relatively low.

Note: Deacon candidates: attendance at the DUCA meeting and Deacon Intensive is compulsory as part of formation. When a separate Deacons Conference is offered, Deacon candidates are expected to go to that as well, though this year the Deacons Conference and Deacon Intensive will be in the same week. Deacon candidates should explore with their sending college about financial support (airfares/travel/accommodation/registration).
